چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Cryoglobulinemia is a kind of immunoglobuline that form in various conditions. These imunoglobulines, precipitate in cold environment and restore to soluble state upon rewarming. Nowadays, strong association between cryoglobulines and hepatitis C has been proposed. Methods: This is a descriptive-analytic study in which we included all documented cases of hepatitis C infection who referred to Shahid Sadoughi Hospital from May 2004 to December 2005. Their sera was assessed for cryoglobulines. Results were analyzed by SPSS software and using Chi-square and t-test. Results: Fifty patients entered the study while 8 persons (15%) were positive for cryoglobulines. No statistically significant correlation was shown between positive cryoglobulinemia and age, sex, mode of acquiring infection, liver enzyme titer, HBs antigen and anti-HIV antibody. Conclusion: Regarding the clinical significance of cryoglobolinemia in developing different clinical syndromes, it is recommended to evaluate cryoglobulines in high risk groups, especially patients with hepatitis C

Hepatitis C Virus Infection and Mixed Cryoglobulinemia

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) chronic infection is recognized as the major cause of mixed cryoglobulinemia (MC). Its persistence represents a continuous stimulus for host immune system with production of circulating immune complexes (ICs), one-third of them with cryoprecipitate property. Several factors contribute to the biological activities of ICs, many of which are not completely known. Among them...

Bcl-2 rearrangement in patients with chronic hepatitis C associated with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia type II.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is found in 80% to 90% of patients with essential mixed cryoglobulinemia (EMC) type II, which is associated with monoclonal IgMk produced by monoclonal B cells. It was investigated whether bcl-2 rearrangement is associated with the clonal B-cell proliferation of EMC induced by hepatitis C. The study groups were composed of 15 patients with HCV and EMC, 12 patie...

Successful Treatment of Pyoderma Gangrenosum with Cryoglobulinemia and Hepatitis C

BACKGROUND Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare, ulcerative cutaneous condition that was first described by Brocq in 1916. This diagnosis is quite challenging as the histopathological findings are nonspecific. Pyoderma gangrenosum is usually associated with inflammatory bowel disease, leukemia, and hepatitis C. We describe a rare clinical case of a patient with hepatitis C (HCV), mixed cryoglubinemia...

Cryoglobulinemia due to Hepatitis C with Pulmonary Renal Syndrome

Cryoglobulinemia is an uncommon condition typically due to hepatitis C infection. Its clinical presentation is varied and often reflects deposition of immune complex and complement deposition. Renal compromise is observed in approximately one third of patients with mixed cryoglobulinemia and reports of concomitant pulmonary involvement are quite rare. We report a case of a patient who presented...

Serum levels of immunoglobulin free light chains in patients with chronic hepatitis C presenting cryoglobulinemia.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects B-lymphocytes, provokes cellular dysfunction and causes lymphoproliferative diseases such as cryoglobulinemia and non-Hodgkin's B-cell lymphoma. In the present study, we investigated the serum levels of kappa and lambda free light chains (FLC) of immunoglobulins and the kappa/lambda FLC ratio in Brazilian patients with chronic HCV infection and cryoglobulinemia. ...
